Each year, International Society of Association Executives (ISAE) recognizes the outstanding work of its members that represent various associations across the state. The STAR Awards event provides the opportunity to network with peers. This year the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library hosted the 10th annual STAR Awards program on Thursday, December 8th. The evening consisted of a VIP Reception, Dinner, Silent Auction, and finally, the Awards Presentation.

The event for which the Horizon Convention Center was honored included inviting six Indianapolis-based meeting professionals to Muncie for a tour of the Horizon Convention Center facility and to experience some of the best Muncie has to offer including Vera Mae’s Bistro, The Artist Within and a show at Emens Auditorium. The event culminated in tea, scones and tiaras the next morning at the Holiday Inn Express while watching the British Royal Wedding.

"We continually look for unique opportunities to bring planners to Muncie from around the state. They always walk away expressing that they had no idea we had so much to do. It’s very gratifying to be recognized for finding creative ways to do this," said Joann McKinney, president and CEO of the center.

Muncie will be the host to the ISAE annual convention in July 2012. To ensure record attendance, the Horizon Convention Center staffwanted Muncie to be represented and all of those who will be part of that convention to attend. A group representing Muncie including Ball State University, Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, Muncie Visitors Bureau and the Horizon Convention Center traveled to the Marion County Public Library in Indianapolis to demonstrate the excitement the community has for hosting the convention this summer.

"We wanted to bring a unified force to STAR Awards to continue our promotion for the July Event!" said McKinney. This is the third straight year Horizon Convention Center has been honored at Star awards. Past awards have included Star Service award, an additional Star marketing award and Supplier of the year.
